Resident of San Jose
Passed away on Thursday June 14th with his family by his side. John was born and raised in San Francisco and attended St. Peter's Grammar and High School and Golden Gate University. In 1942, he was drafted into the US Army and began serving in the European theater, involved with D-day plus 4. After serving three years in the military he returned to San Francisco to be hired by the Western Pacific Railroad, later becoming the Union Pacific Railroad. John retired twice, once after 38 years as a district sales manager for Union Pacific Railroad, then 10 years later as a consultant for Truck-Rail Company.
John carried a positive attitude throughout his entire life. He loved traveling the world with his wife Margie Kelly Dullea, married nearly 65 years. He was an avid golfer and was noted for having the garden with the most blooms in the Almaden Valley. He attended monthly domino games in San Francisco, was president of the Men's Club at Presentation High School, a member of the Sirs Club, and a founding member of Holy Spirit Church. His passion for the 49ers!
John was a devoted father to Chris Dullea, Susan Dullea Clarke, Barbara Dullea (deceased) and Mary Dullea, father-in-law of Rick Clarke, the beloved grandfather of Bryan, Samantha, Colin and Kelly, and the brother of Monsignor Edward Dullea (deceased), Charles (deceased) and James Dullea (deceased). He will be remembered as a man of wisdom and wit, character and integrity.
A Rosary will be held at 7pm at Lima Mortuary, 710 Willow St., San Jose with a Mass on Friday at 12:00 noon at Holy Spirit Church, 1200 Redmond Ave., San Jose. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the: American Heart Association PO Box 742030, Los Angeles, Ca., 90074.
