John Russell DeLong, 93, of Sparks, NV, passed away on July 8, 2014. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on June 14, 1921 to parents John Stewart DeLong and Anna Toms DeLong. He married Carolyn Catherine Rice on June 12, 1943. They lived in San Jose 53 years from 1959 to 2012.
John was employed by IBM for 41.5 years, most of the time as a Field Service Representative. He and Carolyn loved to travel, and saw much of the world. They went on 31 cruises plus many other ground-based tours. John was a master gardener, loved to fish and was an active genealogist.
John R DeLong is survived by his loving wife and girlfriend of 71 years, Carolyn, three daughters Colleen DeLong, San Jose, CA; Mary DeLong-Nelson, Roseburg, OR; Carole Deisenroth, Sparks, NV; and one son John Michael DeLong, La Honda, CA; as well as two sisters: Lelah DeLong, Virginia Beach, VA; Esther Jones, Lancaster, CA; and two brothers: Herbert, York, PA; and Russell, Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Cook. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren: Paul Cook, Austin, TX; Greg Cook, Wasilla, AK; Lisha Corona-Phillips, Idaho City, ID; Jason Corona, Chico, CA; Amanda Deisenroth, Concord, NC; and Jonathan Deisenroth, Sparks, NV; and 7 great-grandchildren: Sabrina Cook, Korey Cook, Joshua Corona, Deiana Stewart, Colin Corona, Henry Phillips, and Emma Corona.
A Rosary Vigil will be held at Willow Glen Funeral Chapel on Weds July 30th at 7pm, 1039 Lincoln Ave, San Jose. A funeral mass will be held at St. Christopher Church on Thurs July 31 at 9:30am.
