Jewel Elizabeth Henson soared away upon hummingbird wings on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024. Her soul is being guided on a new journey by her patiently waiting husband, Melvin, who passed away in 2018.
Jewel was born on the first day of spring, March 20th, 1926, in Teresita Oklahoma to parents Robert F. Lawrence and Ollie O. Cary. She was one of eight children and was very close to her sisters Ruby and Golda Pearl (Buggy). She traveled to San Jose, California in 1941; where she would meet her husband William “Melvin” Henson in 1951, on a blind date. They shared over 65 years together, with their three children; Robert (Robin) of Cedar Flats OR, Kathleen Casey of Madera, CA and Julie (David) Johnson of Manteca, CA. “Nana” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was devoted to her 17 grandchildren and blessed with 16 great-grandchildren whom she adored.
Jewel was 98 years wise and she would always remind us to find some sweetness in each day.
