Born in San Jose to Kohei and Hatsuyo Kogura, James attended Grant Elementary and Peter Burnett Jr. High. He was relocated with his family to the Gila River Internment Camp in Arizona before returning to San Jose’s Japantown. James was dedicated to his family, as well as to Kogura Company, the only Japantown business that existed prior to WWII. He worked almost every day of his life, except for the days where he enjoyed time with his friends and family.James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Toshiko (aka Tee), son Richard (Cindy), daughters Patty and Carolyn, grandson Jimi, granddaughters Tracie and Julie, great granddaughter Adelaine, granddog Mugs, and many more “Kogura” family members, including the families of his sisters, Chiye (late Herb) Takeda and Francis (Henry) Watanabe and late sisters, Kazu (late Mits) Kumamoto, Aki (late Ed) Yoshioka and Grace (late Tachi) Kogura. A Memorial Service will be held at the San Jose Buddhist Temple on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 6:00 pm.
