Graydon was born on June 19, 1928, to Buell and Mona Haskett in Tipton, Indiana. The second of three children, Graydon grew up on the family farm during the Great Depression where he learned the value of hard work and the resilience of Hoosers from his dedicated parents. Often, he reflected on the relentless work ethic of his mother and father. Having graduated from Tipton High School at 17, Graydon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1945. After the war, Corporal Graydon Haskett served in the Marine Corps Reserve until 1948.
While serving in the Marine Corps Reserve, Graydon worked for Union Pacific Railroad. In 1954, he enrolled in Butler University. After graduating in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Graydon began his career as an accountant at the Delco Remy Auto Parts Plant in Anderson, Indiana. Relocating to California in 1960, Graydon became an accountant for Lockeed Martin. Married in 1962, Graydon and Alice (née Huntsinger) from Elwood, Indiana, enjoyed 60 years together and had one son named after Graydon’s grandfather, Henry Christopher Haskett. Moving his family from Sunnyvale to San Jose in 1972, Graydon worked as an accountant for Santa Clara County.
In 1993, Graydon retired to spend more time researching and investing in the New York Stock Exchange and pursuing his love of agriculture: he grew almond, apple, apricot, lemon, orange and tangerine trees as well as planting a garden in his 3/4 acre backyard every spring with a variety of vegetables from acorn squash to zucchini. Sharing an abundant harvest always gave him joy.
Graydon also loved being a grandfather to Grace and James. Predeceased by his parents, Buell and Mona, his sister, Miriam Anne Gilmore, and Joseph, his younger brother. Graydon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice, his son, Henry, his daughter-in-law, Margaret, and his grandchildren, James and Grace Haskett.
A visitation for Graydon will be held at 12 noon on January 5, 2023 at Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel, located at 710 Willow Street, San Jose. Funeral Service to follow at 1 p.m. A reception will be held after the funeral at Lima Family Erickson. Graydon will be buried in Elwood, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization Graydon strongly supported because of their service to veterans.
