Evelyn was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio to Charles and Alice Glazer. By the age of 18, she owned and operated her own beauty shop with her sister, Gretchen. Shortly after WWII she met her future husband, Howard at a dance on a riverboat on the Ohio River. She and Howard were married eight months later. Shortly after getting married the pair decided to seek their fortune out west and conveniently found a company that needed a new bus delivered from Cincinnati to California. They settled in San Jose where they raised their only son, David and spent the rest of their lives. They were married 71 years before Howard died in 2016.
After arriving in California, Evelyn resumed her career as a “Beauty Operator” first with Hart’s Department Store and eventually building a full shop in their home. She considered her clients family and continued to work into her 80’s.
Evelyn and Howard were avid competitive ballroom dancers and enjoyed traveling with friends. They loved to play games and Evelyn continued to play Bridge until the age of 98. She was known for always finding joy in life and her smile and infectious giggle will be missed by her family and friends.
Evelyn is survived by her son, David and his wife Robin, three grandchildren Matthew (Melissa), Jarret and Seralyn, and two great-grandsons, Jackson and Thomas.
Evelyn was a longtime member of Foothill Presbyterian Church. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose on Thursday, October 7 at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Roses.
