Diem Tran passed away on December 9, 2021 in a car accident in San Jose, California. She is survived by her loving family, including her husband (Vi), her three young children, her sister (Thuy Tien), and her brother (Quy).
To all who know her, Diem exemplified selflessness, resilience, determination and most of all, kindness and compassion. She was born on June 18, 1977 in Vietnam. Diem and her mother came to California when she was 18 years old to reunite with her father. Shortly thereafter, Diem lost her mother in a car accident. Despite her difficult circumstances, Diem continued to stay focused on her education, working various jobs while putting herself through college. It was during this time period when she met Vi. Vi and Diem supported each other throughout their relationship and their marriage of over sixteen years was filled with love and joy, especially as it relates to raising and spending time with their three children.
Diem was not only a devoted daughter, wife and mother, she was also a mentor, a caretaker, and an advocate for her relatives, friends, and even strangers. It was Diem’s passion to help others. After working in the private sector for several years after graduating from San Jose State, Diem (while pregnant and caring for an infant) pursued and earned her Master’s in Public Health so she could serve the community. She worked for Santa Clara County for over seven years in various capacities, including advisory services for the Office of Education, and most recently in Santa Clara County’ Social Services Agency as an employment counselor helping individuals in underserved communities find jobs. And even outside the professional setting, Diem provided assistance to everyone. There are countless stories of people who she has helped find affordable housing, seek medical care, pursue education, and obtain jobs.
True to her selfless nature, Diem never asked for much nor did many things for herself. She found happiness in spending time with loved ones and placed little importance on materialistic things. Her love in life was her family, making and gifting food to others, flowers, dessert, and seeing new places and sharing new experiences with her loved ones. Diem will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
