Charlie was a good cop and a better friend.  He always listened to both sides of the story before passing judgment.  I am better for having known him.  God Bless !

I met Sgt Blackmore in January 1973 at Ramstein AB in Germany.   I was active duty & working as a Security Policeman in the USAF.   Sgt Blackmore was on leave from the SJPD to teach airman in the field of Criminal Justice.   I took 5 different courses from Sgt Blackmore & earned 15 college credit hours by the end of 1973.    We spoke a lot about police work in general & he kindly answered all of my curious questions.     After my Honorable Discharge, I became a police officer(June 1975) in Jacksonville, FL & served 30 years retiring as a Sergeant in July 2005.    I have very many fond memories of the conversations I had with Sgt Blackmore.   He had a GREAT influence on my decision to also become a police officer.   I am so very sorry to hear of his passing  but can be assured Heaven is in good hands with Sgt Blackman on duty!!

Worked with Charlie at SJPD , socialized with him and played fast pitch softball a time or two as well.  He was a good man who never took advantage being the Chief of Police's son.  We shared some wonderful memories and he will be missed.  The City of San Jose was very fortunate to have a dedicated officer like Charlie and I was very fortunate to have known him and called him a friend.  God Bless you Charlie !

My brother Conrad Hagen (1932 - 1949) and Charles R. Blackmore were childhood friends when my family lived at 17th and Rosa Streets, San Jose, early 1940s.  My family moved back to Minnesota, where Conrad died in a car accident, at age 16.  Officer Blackmore stopped me, a young 17 year old driver,  on Story Road, ca. 1965, for a traffic violation.   He saw my name Hagen on my license, and told me he had a friend years before with that name, Conrad Hagen.... Well, I did not get a ticket.  RIP, Charles R. Blackmore.
