Catherine Hill Vargas

Mrs. Catherine Hill Vargas was born and raised in Uvalde, Texas. Mrs. Vargas parents were Marcelino and Catarina Hill. She had 11 siblings; she was the oldest of 12. She had 8 sisters, Pauline, Ester, Odilia, Amalia, Amelia, Ruby, Carolina, Adelita, and 3 brothers William Gilbert, Norman David and Jesse Roy Hill. As a child Catherine liked playing baseball. She also spend many years farming on their Ranch. In her spare time she loved taking care of her siblings. While growing up, some of her best friends were actually her cousins! Her best friend was her cousin Gloria. Later in life she became friends with Grace Gonzales. Catherine married Augustine Vargas on December 30, 1952 at the County Court House, Uvalde, TX. They had 4 children. Auggie, Rose, Rolando, Angie. Catherine and Augustine had 7 grandchildren. Monica, Alex, David, Eric, Annette, Vanessa, and Allen. Also they had 11 Great-Grandchildren. Catherine worked as a field worker and she worked in a poultry factory. She was employed for 7-8 years as a field worker and 9 years at the poultry factory. Her favorite pursuits were singing for fun, going on Reno trips and playing bingo. She also loved to watch Baseball and Football. Catherine was a member of St. Victors Catholic Church for about 12 years. During that time she was involved with the extra activities provided like bingo, lobster feast, carnivals. Her favorite vacations were in Reno, Nevada. Catherine retired 1989 in San Jose, CA. in retirement she found new pleasure in caring for her grandchildren and, great-grandchildren. She would also volunteer at their schools for field trips, and school activities. Catherine passed away in Milpitas, CA. she fought a long battle of Scleroderma. She is survived by her son, two daughters, siblings and grandchildren and great grandchildren.Catherine’s services will be held at Chapel Of The Oaks February 5, 2015.
