1932-March 6, 2021 San Jose, CA
Catherine was born in Schenectady, New York, to William and Catherine (Sproul) Salter. Catherine was generally known as Betty. She spent many summers with her cousins at the cottage of her grandparents on Mariaville Lake. The oldest Sproul grandchild, although small in stature, took command of her younger cousins at the lake. Betty was proud that she swam across the lake and back. Betty graduated from Burnt Hills – Ballston Lake High School a year early and initially worked at Wallace Company as the coordinator for the store’s weekly newspaper ads. Later she worked as an administrative assistant at General Electric Company. After cousin Susan (Guest) Pandori moved to the Philadelphia area in 1959, Betty moved to Philadelphia in 1960. A short time later, her parents joined her. The Salter and Pandori families were very close over the years.
Betty worked as a postal worker for the United States Post Office from 1960 until her retirement in 1990. Through the years Betty continued to be a constant contributor to many charitable organizations. Betty especially loved her cats and dogs. In 1992 Betty moved to Live Oak, Florida and then to San Jose, California in 2012. Cousin Susan’s husband, Don Pandori, looked after and often visited Betty while she was a resident at Mission De La Casa from 2012 until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine (Sproul) Salter, and aunts, Annie (Sproul) Phillips, Ellen (Sproul) Guest, Lillian (Sproul) Locker, uncle Robert Sproul, and first cousins, James Sproul, Joyce (Phillips) Pearce, James Phillips, Elizabeth Locker, Jack Locker, and Susan (Guest) Pandori.
She is survived by dear friends: Joe Gaither, and Kerry Smith, and first cousins: Richard J. Locker (Scotia, NY), Garry M. Locker (Glenville, NY), Ruth M. (Sproul) Brown (Bolton, MA), Patricia E. (Sproul) Sargent (Bolton, MA), Elizabeth (Sproul) Renzi (Leominster, MA) and Peggy (Sproul) Baleno (Bolton, MA)
