It is with great sadness I inform you of the passing of my father, Carl Robert McCaw. My dad lived an amazing life, to me. He grew up poor in Ontario Canada during WWII, went to college, got married, had 4 kids, has 7 grandkids, and lived till 84.
He started his life in Brockville, Ontario. He spent much of his early years in an apartment (later the better apt next door for $2 more a month) down near the river (Saint Lawrence). He was a smart child and succeeded well in school. His summers were spent working on the farms for various family members.
He went to undergrad at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Afterward, he got accepted into Stanford. He bought a rust-bucket car from a relative’s used car lot. He met up with a few others and they all drove together out to California. His stories of this time always seemed so amazing to me. At Stanford, he met and married mom. He also had time to get both a Masters in Engineering and a Masters in Science.
For most of his life, he worked for IBM. First in Palo Alto, Ca. Then he moved to Poughkeepsie, NY where he stayed until 1984. He then moved to Morgan Hill, CA and worked at the Bailey Rd IBM offices. After IBM, he worked for a few years at a few computer companies before retiring fulltime.
When he moved to California in 1984, he bought a very nice home with an amazing view of Anderson Lake. This house was his pride and joy. It was filled with good memories and his lifetime of treasures. During his retirement, he spent the years tinkering and fixing issues around the house and yard. He would complain about all the jobs he had to work on, but they kept him busy and his mind occupied.
My dad died in his sleep in the home he adored.
