You are still in my heart, my beloved auntie 💓💓💓

Dearest Aunt Lô,
I was sent to study in France at the early age of 11 — as a consequence, I only have scarce memories of you from my young days. However, you have always been a beloved aunt to me, my brothers and sisters, and these souvenirs remind me of a beautiful young lady, so kind to your nieces and nephews that they loved and adopted you as their second mom.
More recently, I had several occasions to spend time with you, and share happy moments recollecting memories from our youth despite a certain sadness in your eyes, as I know you always bore in your heart the memory of Kha and Khánh who passed away before you.
Today you are joining them and I am honored to represent the great Vũ Hồng family from France wishing to accompany you on your journey towards your last home and hoping that you will find a peaceful rest at last.

Cháu nhớ mãi nụ cười hiền hoà của Bác vào những lúc Cháu đến nhà chơi với Tuyết Anh.  Cháu thích nhất nghe Bác ngồi kể chuyện ngày xưa ngoài Bắc, khi Ông Ngoại Tuyết anh và Ông ngoại Cháu làm quan Tuần Phủ và Bố Chánh với nhau.  Trái đất thật tròn, đến bây giờ Tuyết Ảnh và cháu lại là cặp bạn thân thương.  Mẹ cháu đi trước, bây giờ Bác cũng đi theo.  Bác an nghỉ bình an muôn đời Bác nhé.  Vô cùng thương tiếc Bác.

Dear Bà Lo, I thought of you a couple of days before you passed away, thinking that I needed to ask you the recipe of your delicious cassava and coconut cake, and ask for news. I am still using the knitting needles you gave me the last time I visited California. What a warm, soothing energy you were! I feel grateful to have had the chance to meet you. You live on in our hearts! Love

Dear Ba Lo,
I cannot but echo my brother’s words… and thank you for giving us so much warmth and love. You always made us feel home, and all connected to one another not only through our magical family bond but also because of your imposing wisdom. Without a word and with the greatest kindness and patience, the most gentle smile and eyes, the layers of memories you hold that include where my brother, my sister and I come from: that’s how, unknowingly, you were filling the room with wisdom and positive energy. What a beautiful life you had and beautiful family you built. I wish you a great journey to the other side where I am sure you will find peace and happiness, and room to keep an eye on all your beloved ones here. Goodbye Ba Lo. Ba Lo, I was browsing through all the pictures and you are so beautiful. I haven't seen you in while yet it felt like yesterday. To all of us 2nd generation in France you are a legend, a myth, someone we heard about ever since we could walk through stories of our parents. For me it all made sense when we met for the first time in the summer of 1999 at your place in San Jose: you were so welcoming, kind, empathic and caring. A beautiful mind. I know that all the family inherited from you. To my parents you were like a mother, and to my sisters and I like a grand mother. A strange feeling when I saw you less than 15 times in my life... I think we simply adore you, and from the bottom of my heart I would like to thank you. Your life through the ups and downs of History the last 90 years was nothing short of extraordinary, and you achieved so much. I now wish you a great journey to the other side, I am sure there are plenty waiting for you there. I also wish you met my wife and 2 daughters as I am sure they would have loved you as much as I do.
