Audrey Holbrook was born July 30, 1930, in St Louis, Missouri to Lawrence and Izola Mosley. The fourth of twelve siblings, Audrey had nine brothers and two sisters. Audrey accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of The First Baptist Church until the family moved to Dayton, Ohio. There she united with St John Baptist Church where she remained until she and her husband of 65 years moved to San Jose, California.
In 1964, Donald and Audrey became members of Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev C.W. Washington. Audrey served in many ministries of the church but was a dedicated member of the American Baptist Women’s Missionary (ABW) and Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Circles. She served as Secretary, President and Vice President of the ABW and Benevolence Clerk of the BPW. She also served as the Coordinator of Community and Church for the Northern California District of the American Baptist Women.
An advocate for senior rights and benefits, Audrey was a longtime member of the Senior Outreach Program, and charter member of the Iola Williams Senior Program. She was also a member of the NAACP, Afro Center of San Jose as well as a past member of the San Jose Real Estate Board.
Audrey worked for the Veterans Administration in Dayton, Ohio and United Postal Service in San Jose where she retired after serving over 30 years.
Audrey departed this life on March 13, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister. Audrey is survived by her devoted husband Donald, two sons, Louis Cunningham/Sheila and Sherman Ray Holbrook, three granddaughters, Leah/Reuven Surall, Alana/Geofrey Sanders, and Malachi Holbrook; one grandson, Bryson Holbrook, nine great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister Izola Neilson of Atlanta, Georgia, brothers Sherman Mosley, Waverly Mosley, and Jerry Mosley of Dayton, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
