Champa Khanna was born on October 30, 1937 in Lyallpur India. Her father, Amar Nath Khanna, and her mother, Kailash Wati Khanna (née Kapoor), narrowly escaped the violence of the 1947 partition with their family and moved to New Delhi, India. Champa studied Ayurvedic medicine until her wedding on October 12, 1964 to Ram Sarup Vij. As was the custom at the time, her name was changed to Anita Sarup Vij upon marriage. Their children, Sandeep and Sonya, were born in 1965 and 1969, respectively. In 1967, Anita moved to Berkeley, California where her husband was finishing his graduate degree in civil engineering. In 1969 the family moved to San Jose and has lived in the Almaden Valley ever since. Here, they developed a large and loving circle of friends. Anita was a dedicated homemaker and was known for her loving nature and excellent cooking. She also obtained her real estate license and worked as an agent. She was very artistic and enjoyed flower arranging, painting, sewing and knitting. She had an amazing green thumb and plants thrived under her care. Anita and Ram added a son-in-law in 1991 when Sonya married Dr. Sunil Ahuja, and a daughter-in-law in 1992 when Sandeep married Dr. Priya Tejwani. Between 1994 and 1997 Anita and Ram had four grandchildren: Saira Kumaravel (née Ahuja), Sarina Vij, Sameer Vij and Jai Ahuja. Anita and Ram added a grandson-in-law in 2018 when Saira Ahuja married Karthik Kumaravel. She was a dedicated and devoted grandmother and loved to spend as much time with her grandchildren as possible. Anita was the nucleus of the family and everyone loved coming to the Vij home for delicious food, get-togethers, and lots of affection. Family and friends were very important to Anita and she will be missed dearly by all.
