Alberto “Berting” Reyes Santos, Sr. was born on March 16, 1926 in Manila, Philippines to Irene and Victorino Santos; he was the last of 5 children. As a young man, he survived and aided in the resistance against the Japanese occupation in the Philippines during WWII.
On April 1, 1950, he married Juanita Opelac, and together they raised 8 children: Antonio, Angelito, Angelita, Angelina, Josefina, Alberto Jr. (deceased), Benito, and Eleoren.
Alberto Sr. was a certified high-pressure welder and worked for construction firms, including the US Navy ship repair facility, in Guam. He also worked in Borneo before coming to the United States in 1977.
He suffered a stroke on Sunday, October 6, 2013 and passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 with his devoted family at his bedside. Along with his 7 surviving children, “Tatay” left behind 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren to carry on his legacy.
