He was born on January 22, 1921 in Martinez, California where he spent his early years. He attended Stanford University receiving a degree in mechanical engineering in 1942.
Following his graduation, he joined the Navy and became a lieutenant and was captain of LST 481 during World War II. They were involved in several major engagements in the Pacific, including Saipan, Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He served with distinction and received several letters of commendations. Upon returning from World War II, he once again attended Stanford University, this time receiving his MBA.
During Bill's business career he was involved in the petroleum and gas industry. He worked for Standard Oil and later was President of Westates Petroleum Company in Los Angeles. While there, he traveled extensively on business. He spent time in Italy working with partners on the projects along the Adriatic Coast and in North Africa. Later, he formed Mariposa Petroleum Company and then the Cliffwood Energy Company. He enjoyed the challenges and rewards of the oil and gas industry.
Bill enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. He vacationed several times with the entire family on the island of Maui. He was a long time member of the Valley Hunt Club in Pasadena, California and was also a member of San Gabriel Country Club where he loved playing golf.
Bill has three children by his first wife, Amy Jean Fox. They are Marianne Beaz, Elaine Blakely and Bill Boyer Jr. He is also survived by their spouses and their children and grandchildren.
Bill has two surviving stepdaughters by his second wife, Madeline Owen Boyer, Carol Hanson and Joan White along with their children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his third wife Nell Boyer and her daughters Linda Rosdahl and Sandra Sims, her spouse, and their children and grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
According to Bill's wishes, there will be no memorial service and his ashes will be spread at sea.
