Sharon M. Rudluff, died on July 7, 2014, at the age of 70. Sharon was born to Ralph and Teresa Thompson, in Los Angeles, CA, and moved to Temple City, CA in the 1950's where she spent the rest of her life. Sharon passed away with her family and loved ones present, on a beautiful sunny southern California day. Sharon was a loving wife to Oscar C Rudluff Jr., for 47 years, a beloved mother to Rudd O.C. Rudluff and Robb T. Rudluff, Mother in Law, to Robb's wife, Brandis Rudluff and Grandmother to Gage T. Rudluff.
Sharon matriculated from St. Luke School, Temple City, was a graduate of San Gabriel Mission High School, San Gabriel, then attained a Bachelors in Physical Education from Cal State Los Angeles, and a Masters in adaptive PE from Pepperdine. While pursuing her education, Sharon was an elite athlete competing in Basketball, Softball, Tennis, Volleyball, and Swimming.
Sharon’s true passion in life was working with the youth in the community and students she inspired. She was a PE teacher for 38 years, with 32 of those years as the head of the Women’s PE dept. at Gladstone, High School in Azusa, CA. Sharon could be seen coaching women’s Archery, swimming, diving, and volleyball teams, and spending the summers assisting the special ED students at Basset High School to swim.
Sharon was an outstanding leader in the community by organizing one of the 1st neighborhood watch programs for Temple City. Sharon had a true passion with great outdoors, so this helped her fuel her inspiration for an integral companion and component to the Boy Scouts of America. Sharon rose through the ranks within San Gabriel Valley Council culminating in being the first woman assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 161.
The San Gabriel Mountains seemed as it was built for Sharon. She met Oscar while she was a Counselor at Camp Tereseta Pines, and he, a counselor for Camp Commerce. Sharon was an avid outdoorswomen, hiking, camping and Backpacking, Mt. Whitney, The Silver Moccasin trail, Mt. Badan Powel, Philmont Scout Ranch, Pacific Crest Trail are just a few, she has accomplished. Sharon also loved traveling the US in the Motorhome, and Cruzing the High Seas, exploration and new horizons always were an enjoyment for her. Sharon also logged approx. 3000 miles backpacking and has performed in 2 dozen Eagle Scout projects. Sharon’s integral role in the BSA attained her a Silver Beaver award for truly touching the lives and hearts of several Boy scouts in San Gabriel Valley Council.
She will be missed!
