Lawrence “Larry” Berg was born in East Los Angeles, the 9th of the 11 children of A. Herman Berg (Westphalia, Germany) and Mary Kettenbach Berg (St. Louis, MO). He grew up in Wilmar (Rosemead) CA, attended elementary school at St. Stephen School in Monterey Park and high school at Cathedral in Los Angeles. After one year at Pasadena City College, Larry enlisted in the Navy at the start of the Korean War, and served as a structural mechanic (V.A.55) aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Essex, for two cruises to Korea. After four years in the Navy, he met and married Dolores Barbera (San Gabriel). They had one son, Christopher (San Gabriel). Larry worked in the air-conditioning industry, in photo-finishing, and as a courier, until his retirement and the death of his wife, Dolores, in 1996. In 2009, he met and married Lolita Estrella (Philippines). He lived at the same address in San Gabriel for 50 years, and was very active, in numerous capacities, at San Gabriel Mission Catholic Church. Larry is survived by his wife, Lolita, his son, Christopher, his grand-daughter, Crystal Berg, 3 great-grandchildren, his sister, Elisabeth Favello (Walnut Creek, CA), his brother Martin/Shirley (Lakeview, OR), his brother, Father Ralph (Prescott, AZ) and 40 nephews and nieces. Services will be held Wednesday, June 23, at San Gabriel Mission Church; 428 S. Mission Dr, San Gabriel 91776; 626-457-3035: 9:30 AM Viewing (in the Church); 10:00 AM Rosary; 10:30 AM Mass of the Resurrection; 11:30 AM Reception in the Church hall; 2:00 PM burial at Resurrection Cemetery in South San Gabriel.
