Christopher “Chris” Cangialosi, age 76, of San Gabriel, California passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 after a massive stroke and courageous battle with cancer. Despite the pain, Chris showed his courage and strength in facing his illness with a smile and occasional humor.
Chris was born February 27, 1945 in New York, New York to parents Dominick and Carmela Cangialosi. In 1950 his family moved to Los Angeles, California where he lived with his parents and brother, Ralph. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1962 and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1964, where he served aboard the U.S.S Bennington during the Vietnam War. In 1962 Chris met Kathryn after being introduced by a friend, they married in 1967 and together had two children, Deanna and Andrea.
Chris was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a fourth degree who enjoyed activities with his brother Knights. He was also a member of The American Legion, a Legionnaire who appreciated the benefits of being a proud veteran, especially a free meal on Veteran’s Day.
Chris loved music and dancing and followed his passion spinning records as a disc jockey for 10 years. He opened his own auto body shop for a few years and later sold it taking a job with the Los Angeles Unified School District, where he retired after 22 years as an Auto Body and Fender Repair Man, his true gift and talent.
Chris (Papa) is survived by his daughters Deanna (Charles) Muckle and Andrea (Joseph) Monaly, Jr.; former spouse Kathryn; three grandsons Ryan, Evan and Nathaniel; brother Ralph and family; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
A funeral mass for Christopher will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5605 Cloverly Ave, Temple City, CA 91780 with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held Friday, April 22, 2022 at Riverside National Cemetery.
