Ann Marie Danna, 97, a longtime resident of Temple City, passed away peacefully in Arcadia, California, on December 31, 2017. Ann was born in Rochester, New York, on February 4, 1920. She was the third of five children born to Anthony and Josephine Genco. Ann’s parents were immigrants from Sicily, and she was fiercely proud of her Italian heritage. As a teenager, she loved to dance to big band music. On November 22, 1941, she married Thomas Danna; they were married for more than 71 years until his passing in 2013. After the end of World War II, Ann and Thomas moved to Southern California with their first child, and they settled in the San Gabriel Valley to raise a family. Ann never missed the harsh winters of her childhood. Besides raising four children, Ann knew her way around a sewing machine and worked part-time as a seamstress. All who knew her remember her as a loving wife, parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent; for her gentle smile and the gleam in her eye; and as a skilled and much appreciated cook. For the past three years, she lived at Kensington Sierra Madre Assisted Living, where she enjoyed crafts, puzzles, card playing, and other activities. Her husband Thomas, her son Samuel, and her brothers and sister predeceased her; she is survived by her son, Richard Danna and his wife Sheila; her daughter Patricia Geon; her daughter Diane Hacker and her husband Gerald; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
