First, I'm very sorry to hear of Lucy's passing.  My condolences to Lucy's family.    I met Lucy through the vegan Rawfood group, SFLife in SF, CA.  Occasionally, I would give her a ride home.  One day, I asked her if she ever got married.  She told me a little about that and it made an impact on me,  and I wrote some of what she said in my online journal.  I found the entry,  dated March 9, 2009.  It's an entry to a short story  based on Lucy.   This is how I remember Lucy:  an attractive,  bubbly, independent, woman with some fire who lived her own life.

I never did finish the story but hope you enjoy this small "portrait/sketch" I did of Lucy.

Portrait Title:  "Lucinda"

Lucinda was a beautiful woman with blond hair. It wasn’t really blond. It was actually dark brown, but through the years, she at first highlighted her brown hair with shades of gold and blond and then eventually went golden blond.   She was South American and she could carry the blond hair very well. She had high cheekbones and her new blond hair blended with her gray-light brown eyes and pale, smooth skin.  I couldn’t tell if her eyes were naturally gray or if age had just added a few cataracts to soften the look in her eyes. 

I asked this petite, refined Colombian woman who seemed to have a bubble of fire underneath her calm exterior if she had ever been married. I was surprised when she told me something I had never heard before and didn’t expect from her:

“I’ve been engaged 3 times!” , she exclaimed loudly with a hint of laughter and slight exasperation that she easily shrugged off and then bent down to adjust the bags of groceries at her feet in the car. 

I laughed with her and then was even more surprised when she said: 

“The first one was Italian.” .....
