Joe was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, to Judith Donnelly DiSalvo and Jack DiSalvo. He attended Neville School in Elementary, and graduated from North Allegheny High School in 1962. He graduated from Edinboro University in 1966 with a degree in Art Education, then taught Art at North Hills High School in Pittsburgh, and Patchogue NY.
Joe moved to San Francisco in 1970, where he worked as a paramedic. He then worked in the taxi industry for many years. He was always a history buff, and loved to show friends and family from “back East” around his new home. He knew the background of all the places in the City. Joe loved the outdoors, and rode his motorcycle through the surrounding mountains. He also loved animals of all kinds. He once came upon an accident in the hills, and while others rescued the humans, Joe rounded up the dogs and carried them safely to the ambulance.
Joe will be missed by his friends and colleagues in San Francisco, his sister Judy Stenger and her husband Harry, in Rockville Maryland, his nephews Scott (Michele) and Chris (Deborah) and a host of beloved cousins. He also leaves six grandnieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Pamela Diaz and Mark Gruberg, for their caring help, Green Street Mortuary in SF, and Brandt Funeral Home in Ross Twp. Pittsburgh. Joe will rest next to his father in Christ Our Redeeemer, Northside Catholic Cemetery.
