John Frederick, a wonderful father, grandfather, husband and friend passed away on December 11th. He lived a rich and full life and although he liked to often say things like "I have a swinging brick for a heart", those that knew him recognized reality was quite the contrary. John was born in St. Helens, England on July 17, 1930 to Italian parents. He was the second child of John Frederick (Federici) and Ida Lusardi. While serving in the British Army, he was captured and returned a wounded Korean war veteran. After returning to England, during a visit to Italy, he met his future wife, Caterina. They travelled to San Francisco together in 1957, following relatives who had come to the United States previously. His son, Raymond, was born in 1958. John’s first job was at Safeway, which led to friendships that resulted in a new job with Golden Gate Disposal Company. He worked there 36 years and retired in 1994.
John hated to sit still; he worked hard in every facet of his life. He saved his salary and purchased property in San Francisco as a "retirement project" to keep busy. Neighbors and tenants could often find him puttering and repairing at any given time. If you knew him well, it’s likely he’d ask, "How about a wee one?" so he could share his favorite Scotch Whisky with you.
John is survived by his wife, Caterina and Son, Ray as well as Ray’s family: wife Jennifer and grandsons, Adam and Ben, whom he never stopped enjoying. To those that knew John, they know he had a heart of gold beneath the tough exterior.
Rest in Peace Nonno; we miss you and were so blessed to have you in our lives.
