George Lok Chu (Chil Lok Chiu), age 85, of San Francisco, California passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. George was born October 8, 1936. George's mother moved from Joiner, Arkansas to Hong Kong while pregnant with him. George, son of Chung Shee Lum (aka Mary Lum) and Wai Chu (Wai Chiu) was born in Hong Kong and lived there until World War 2, which forced him to move to China. He subsequently moved back to Hong Kong as a teenager working various jobs in transportation. George arrived in the United States in March 1968 and began working as a chef in San Francisco. He lived and raised his family in North Beach where they still reside today. In 1974, he began working at Qume corporation and subsequently retired there in 1992. After retirement, you would often find him chatting at Washington Square Park, shopping in Chinatown, and talking it up with various employees at the neighborhood Safeway. He adored his grandchildren, often picking up their favorite foods, and would light up during their weekly visits. George was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed.
