Anna was born, raised and lived in San Francisco all her 99 years. She was the youngest of three children born to Colombo and Maria Piatanesi. Her two brothers, Garibaldi (Gary) and Faustino (Faust) predeceased her.
Anna died peacefully at home holding hands with her daughter and granddaughter while church bells tolled the 2:00 hour and God took her home to join her beloved husband John who predeceased her in 1994 and her much loved and adored mother, father, two brothers and other family members.
Her father, Colombo Piatanesi, came from Italy in 1907 and established an accordion factory where he and his partner Pasquale Petromilli manufactured accordions which won gold medals at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in 1915. Colombo's 3 younger brothers, Aristodemo, Finau and Bramante followed their brother's lead and established accordion factories in Chicago.
In 1927, Colombo established his own company, "Colombo and Sons" with his 2 sons, Gary and Faust. His grandson Gordon Piatanesi and son-in-law John Monteverdi joined the team and together produced the finest instruments that enabled the factory to thrive. The handmade accordion they produced was renown for its excellent craftsmanship and superior tone.
Eventually Colombo and Sons stopped manufacturing locally and contracted with relatives in Italy to continue the Grande-Vox (trademark name) tradition for many more years until the retirement of Colombo's grandson Gordon in 1995.
Anna is survived by her daughter Arlene Margetich (Lawrence), son John Monteverdi, and grandchildren Laurene Schlosser (James), Bruce Margetich (Lynn) and great grandchildren Trevor Theis, Anna Schlosser, Liam Schlosser, Evelyn Margetich, and Vivienne Margetich. In addition, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to thank Susan Uy and Myrine Estavillo, her wonderful and loving caregivers. They and a team of others provided constant and vigilant care especially in her final days.
Private burial services were held at Holy Cross Cemetery. Plans and a date for Anna's Celebration of Life are pending.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Anthony Foundation, St. Jude Foundation, or Alzheimer's Society are suggested.
