Wasfi Elias Mansour (“Ross”), 83, of San Diego, slipped the surly bonds of earth and embarked on his final journey on April 9, 2020. He arrived on this planet April 4, 1937, in Haifa, Israel, born to Elias Mansour and Isabel Haddad. He married Leyla Kfoury on December 14, 1963, and she survives.
Also, surviving are his son, Elie Mansour, daughter, Patricia Mansour, grandson, Ryan Mansour, all of San Diego; his brother, Badri Mansour, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, and all the friends that he loved.
Wasfi’s mother and father preceded him in death.
Wasfi was a long-time resident of San Diego since retiring 20 years ago. He kept himself busy with writing historical fiction, painting, sailing, reading, gardening, taste-testing his wife’s amazing cooking and being the bane of all squirrels and rabbits that dared to encroach on his backyard. He was active in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and really cleaned up nice in uniform. He previously owned a manufacturing business near Baltimore, Maryland where he innovated ergonomic office seating and played hooky as often as possible to sail the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends, sharing stories, eating good food, debating the geopolitical situation, and being the most wonderful listener and friend to everyone. He also enjoyed singing, karaoke, and playing piano with wild abandon and sharing his musical “talents” with all. He was very proud to have won karaoke contests on two cruises.
As his untimely departure coincides with the global pandemic, there will be no funeral service at this time but we will gather for a sanitary socially-distant celebration of life to be held once the apocalypse is confirmed as not being imminent. His remains will be interred at the El Camino Memorial Park in Sorrento Valley.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Saint Ephrem Maronite building fund at 750 Medford Street, El Cajon, California 92020, USA.
