July 10, 1942 – July 26, 2024
Thomas Sexton (aka Poppy, Tommy) passed away on July 26th, surrounded by his family.
Tom was born in San Diego to Phyllis and Norman Sexton, of Greek heritage and Catholic upbringing, details we believe lent itself to his wilder side. Attending Saint Augustine Catholic school, he was a proud Saintsman remaining close to many fellow classmen.
Working for SDG&E for 30+ years he was dubbed the “gas & electric man” and was a sought advisor to his children when stuff didn’t work.
Outside of work Tom was an OMBAC member since the 1970’s, working the OTL bracket board to the age of 81, never flinching at a team name and imparting the high demand/fought for wristbands to his kids and grandkids.
Poppy loved South Mission beach, The Beachcomber, Pennant, a good rum and coke (no lime), San Diego State Aztecs football and basketball, warm blankets, Cheetos, Wiener schnitzel, and Krispy Kreme. Moreover, he loved his wife of 40 years, another Phyllis (yes…strange), and living his final days in Indio, CA playing golf and pickleball. He has too many kids and grandkids to list, but the favorites know who they are.
We love you Poppy, and will miss you beyond words.
