Thomas Earl Cisco

Thomas E. Cisco Tom was born in Princeton Missouri on January 30, 1926. He was brought up in Princeton until late in High School when his family came to San Diego. He graduated from Point Loma High School in 1944. After High School and tour in the Navy from 1944-1946, he attended college at Oregon State. Completing his college career he returned to his home town in Princeton, Missouri to begin his lifelong career in banking as a teller at the Princeton State Bank. After two years at the Bank in Princeton, he came back to California and began a 12 year career with Bank of America serving in a variety of positions concluding as Los Angeles Senior Operations Officer of the Corporate Trust Division of the Bank. While at Bank of America, Tom met fellow bank employee Rita Wieland. The two of them decided to leave the bank and continue their banking careers in Hawaii, after a year on the “island”, they decided to come back to the mainland. They were married on their return and began their joy filled life together that continued for 55 years until Tom’s death. After returning to San Diego Tom joined Security Pacific National Bank in San Diego. He served in several capacities retiring in 1983 as Vice President and Manager of the San Diego Main office where he managed 50 employees and 250 million assets. Among his other banking honors, he was named #1 manager statewide for Bank of America out of 800 managers then serving. While at the Bank, he was asked by one of the Bank’s major customers, Legler Bennough, to serve on the initial Board of the Benbough Foundation. Tom continued to serve on the Board for 24 years, and following Mr. Benbough’s death in 1996, served as Vice President and Treasurer lending his considerable administrative and financial talents to the distribution of more than Forty Million Dollars by the Foundation until his retirement from the Foundation in 2015. Following his full time banking career, Tom continued to be active in the banking field. He served as Senior Vice President organizing and managing the private banking department at the newly created First National Bank. He also served as one of four outside Directors of the La Jolla Bank. Central to his career as banking was, Tom was involved in numerous charitable and philanthropic organizations. He served as Senior Chairman of San Diego County Regional Board of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He was the community/Business liaison for the D.A.R.E program of the San Diego Police Department, was active for many years in the Navy League and he served as a member of the fundraising task force of San Diego Hospice to name a few of his associations. Although Tom continued to be actively involved in numerous pursuits, until his death, he took the time for numerous trips and cruises with Rita, relaxing vacations in their desert time shares, golf at La Jolla Country Club and fun with family and friends. Tom is survived by his loving wife Rita and by three children of his beloved deceased brother Billy, Linda Cisco, Danny Cisco and Susan Hoefle. Tom did much for many at the bank, through philanthropy, and through personal relationship and service. He will be missed by all whose lived he touched. A committal service is scheduled at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd. San Diego, CA 92121 on Saturday September 9th, 2017 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, dontations can be made to the San Diego Humane Society or The Make a Wish Foundation.
