Terrence Thomas Toohey

Terrence (Terry) Thomas Toohey, 77, passed away December 27th, 2017 at his home in San Diego, CA. His funeral service will be held January 17th at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, San Diego, CA, followed by burial at Miramar National Cemetary.

Terry was born on May 1, 1940 in Bay City Michigan to Thomas and Alice Toohey. He is a Navy Veteran of 10 years. He married Jane Bissonette on June 12 ,1971. They raised 2 children, Colleen and Shawn.

Terry and the family moved from Michigan to California in 1981. Although he moved to California and adpoted it as his second home he always had a foundness for Michigan. Terry worked multiple jobs throughout his life and retired as a Medical Technician for the VA Medical Center.

Terry loved classic country music, his favorire artist being Hank Snow. He had a passion for the guitar and signing / writing music. He had a foundess for History, especially the Civil War, and was on a constant request of knowledge through books and documentaries.

Terry enjoyed exploring the outdoors from fishing to playing and excelling in his favorite sports, baseball and hockey, in his early years. He was a fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. He and his family adopted the hometown Padres upon the family’s move to San Diego. He enjoyed watching, both on television and in person, baseball and hockey, throughout his life. He often shared those cheerished moments with and passed on his passion and knowledge to his family.

Faith played a major role in Terry’s life. Terry attended Catholic mass with his family and was also involved with the chruch as an usher. He often prayed and was found of St. Jude. In his later years he was unable to go to Mass but he remained strongly connected to his faith through prayer and continued to receive the Eucarist.

Terry was a loving and caring family man, provider, patriarch and friend.

He is deeply missed but will never be forgotten and will always be loved.

Terry is survived by his vast extended family of cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He is survied by his immediate family; his wife of 46 years Jane (68), brother Ken (72), sister Luann (84), daughter Colleen (45), son Shawn (38), and his three grandchildren; Desiree (21), Mia (14), and Julianna (12).
