Sergeant Simon C. Saucedo died peacefully in Orange, California in his home on June 2, 2024 at the age of 83. He was assigned to Company B, 7th Special Forces group (SFG), Airborne (ABN) Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He participated in the Berlin Wall/Cold War from December 12, 1961 – April 19, 1962. Simon received the following military awards and distinctions:
Parachute Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (x2), Cold War Victory Certificate & Jungle Expert.
Simon was born on December 19th, 1940 in Houston, Texas to Simon & Ramona Saucedo.
Simon graduated with his High School Diploma from the United States Armed Forces Institute in 1960. Simon also received a diploma from Sweetwater Adult School in 1970 and the Degree of Associate in Science from Southwestern College in 1972.
Simon married Maria D. Gomez in July 1962. Simon began working for Convair as a welder for 5 years before re-enlisting into the Army in 1966. After his Honorable Discharge in 1969 he began working for San Diego Transit as a bus mechanic. Over 9 years, the couple welcomed 3 children into their home. He was a loving father & husband who also loved the game of golf, chess & crossword puzzles. He was a dedicated member of the Mexican-American Golf Association for over 20 years.
A funeral is scheduled for June 24, 2024 at Miramar National Cemetery, with a reception to follow at El Camino Memorial Park in Sorrento Valley. Father Matt Vasquez of Good Shepherd Church will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Simon's life. Condolences can be sent to www.mem.com.
Simon is survived by his wife Maria, his daughter Ruth, his sons Joey, Abel and his 7 grandchildren.
