

She was the oldest of seven children of Leonard and Christine Brand.
Shirley grew up in Glasgow and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Glasgow High School. In 1960, she married her husband of 58 years, Robert McKeone in Kansas City, MO. Together they embarked on a new chapter and relocated to the beautiful city of San Diego. They purchased a small house in Point Loma, pursued a new career and started a family with the addition of their three daughters.
As their children grew, Shirley decided to go back to work. She worked for the San Diego
Community College District for over twenty years before retiring in 1998. Shirley and Bob lived in Point Loma and enjoyed retirement. They both were involved in their church community and also enjoyed gardening, cooking and their grandchildren. They lived in Point Loma until Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and decided to sell their house and move into a retirement community. Both of them enjoyed retirement life at Casa De Las Campanas.
Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Mary Anne Timm (married to Gary Timm), Shelley Smedley and Kathleen Atkins (married to Scott Atkins). She is remembered by her grandchildren Andrew Timm (married to Rachael Timm), Matthew Timm, Patrick Smedley, Catherine Smedley, Emily Smedley, Rose Smedley, Anna Atkins, Sean Atkins and her great grandchildren Weston Timm and Sienna Timm. She is also survived by her brother Dean Brand and sisters Bonnie Littrell and Christy Wright.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband Bob McKeone, parents Leonard and Christine Brand, her sisters Carol Edwards and Linda Symes and her brother Leonard Brand.
Recitation of the Rosary will be Wednesday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home. Funeral will be on Thursday, October 19 at 11:30 at Sacred Heart Church in Ocean Beach followed by burial at Fort Rosecrans.
She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
