He was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford Glenn Goff and Cornelia Christine Miller and his brothers, Clarence Douglas Benge, David Benge, Otis Goff and LG Goff. Survivors include his wife, Linda Maltese Goff, son, Matthew Goff of San Diego, three daughters, Michelle Goff, Melanie Goff and Megan Goff all of San Diego. Sisters: June Goff, Ft. Smith, Arkansas; Darlene Stiegler, Cottonwood, Arizona; Brother: Dalen Goff, Lowell, Arkansas. Grandchildren: Angelo Goff, Brynn Goff, Sapphira Goff and Citrina Goff, all of San Diego.
Sanford enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1969. He became a Jet Mechanic (AD) and worked on jets until October 1982 when he changed rates and became a Data Systems Technician (DS). He retired from the U.S. Navy in June 1994. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he got a job with the County of San Diego on 9/2/94, first as a Deputy Probation Officer in the Probation Department and then later as a Departmental Computer Technician in the Sheriff’s Department. His first job in the Sheriff’s Department was in downtown San Diego, at the San Diego Central Jail where he was responsible for all of the computer and security systems. He later moved on to the Sheriff’s Help Desk in Kearny Mesa, which was his last job function prior to retiring in March 2017.
Sanford tried to be active in the Mira Mesa Community. He served as an Equipment Manager for Mira Mesa Girls Softball and assisted in coaching his daughter’s teams. He served as the President of the Summerset Court Community Association until October 15, 2024, serving the local community for well over a decade in that role.
A charming southern gentleman, Sanford was a professional at getting others to smile. For example, he would tell people “I was born in Paris!” - and after they were intrigued, he would laugh when he followed it up with, “Paris - Arkansas!” often eliciting laughs and smiles from all those around.
It was impossible to not like Sanford, since his superpower was always putting others first and helping everyone around him; his kindness was genuine and pure, his energy was always lighthearted and positive, and his pure heart glowed continuously.
Sanford enjoyed spending time with his family, shooting pool, ping pong, fishing, hunting, guns, basketball, classic cars, motorcycles – and really enjoyed playing poker. He was a United States Navy Sailor, fluent in both mechanics and computers. He was the perfect example of a family man – always making time for each of his children and his wife. His kind smile was welcoming and true - and he will be forever missed in our hearts.
