Roy Sturdivant passed away in his home in Rancho Bernardo on March 10, 2016 at the age of 89. Roy was born on April 9, 1926 in St. Paul, MN to Roy and Mary Sturdivant. He was the eldest of 8 children. Roy graduated with honors from St. Thomas Military Academy in 1943. Roy married Joy Swallender in 1955. He moved his family to San Diego (Serra Mesa and later Ranch Bernardo) in 1961 to join his father-in-law in the tax preparation business. In 1962 Roy invented the accounting industry's first Tax Organizer and started his own company, Sturdico, which has served accountants for over 53 years. Those who knew Roy will miss his unique wit, advice, fun loving spirit, and love of baseball. Roy enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching his favorite game, and was a devoted Padres fan. He also loved his trips to the casino with Joy and anyone else that would come along - playing Let it Ride, slots and having 2 am breakfasts. Most importantly though, he loved his family. He was an amazing and loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend. He was the happiest when he was surrounded by his family. We are all so grateful and blessed to have had Roy in our lives and will miss him every single day. Roy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joy; Sons Bill and Tom (Kathleen), Daughters Vicki Audette, Susan Whitesell (Tom) and Cathy Moherman (Austin); Grandchildren Jimmy, David, Jolene, Casey, Madeline and Claire, and 5 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Brother, Joe and Daughter, Nancy Sturdivant Toler. Services will be held on March 18th at 11am at El Camino Memorial Park in Sorrento Valley.
