Rodney Lawrence Hoel

Rodney Hoel, passed on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the age of 75 in the VA hospital in La Jolla California. He was born November 19, 1947 in Jersey City, New Jersey. The son of Lawrence Hoel Sr. and Patricia (Hirsch) Hoel.

Rod graduated from Morris Hills Regional High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation, he served with the USMC Marine Corps. in Vietnam during the 67-68 TET OFFENSIVE, 3/5 KILO.

After his time in Vietnam, he married his High School Sweetheart Ann (Wilson) Hoel and settled in Mesa, Arizona, raising their 2 children Christopher Hoel and Sharon Hoel.

20 years later Rod moved to San Diego California and married Dorothy Tumusa Hoel and raised two daughters Andrea (Hoel) Dawson and Talya (Hoel) Vela.

Surviving in addition to his wife, children, many nieces and nephews, are his grandchildren Jazelyn, Jessica, Tara, Alexa, Jade, and Devin. Rods mother Patricia (Hirsch) Hoel, brothers Bill Hoel and wife Karen, Larry Hoel and wife Debbie, Dave Hoel and sister Joyce (Hoel) Brunell and husband Tom.

Rod loved his baseball (Padres), fishing, going to the casino and family. He was not happy unless he had his family around him and would be humbled to see his family around him as we lay him to rest.

A Service of remembrance will be held:

Visitation: Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 4-8pm

Funeral Service: Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 9am
