R Michael "Mike" Jones, 67 died peacefully on September 25, 2017. Mike was passionate--about his family, about his work, and about life. As a triathlete, Mike competed in a dozen events each year, often camping along the way. An avid cyclist, Mike liked to be on the move, helping all that were around him including his community and his clients. He was an outstanding attorney and all-around mentor and entrepreneur.
Mike was born in Chillicothe, Ohio but the family moved to Columbus in 1965. Mike started his career as a Financial and Securities Analyst with the State of Ohio. Mike met his life love and soul mate, Carol Steffens, when they were both devoted tennis players! After moving to Salida, CO in 1978, Mike, Carol, brother Dan and friend John Pyson founded Real American Action Wear. Their apparel manufacturing and distribution company employed over 100 people at its peak. Mike went on to earn his B.S., at Regis University (1990) then earned an M.B.A., at the University of Colorado (1992).
After selling the company, Mike had a Merger & Acquisition consulting practice, specializing in providing consulting services to sellers of mid-market companies. He was also the publisher of “Merger & Acquisition Network.” He and Carol then moved to San Diego, where Mike earned his J.D., California Western School of Law (cum laude) (1998). Mike was inspired by his professional and personal relationships with his co-workers and clients at Higgs, Fletcher, and Mack.
