I will always be grateful to Dick for giving me a job on the C2P project. He was an old school engineer, straight forward and to the point.  It was my honor to work for him. Rest in peace sir.

Rick Bassett

Uncle Dick was always a favorite in our household. Our families spent our holidays together and it was always fun once Uncle Dick and Auntie Michi arrived. 

One thing I remember Uncle Dick for was over the course of several holidays, Uncle Dick taught me how to play checkers, losing intentionally and hamming up his "losses" until I was rolling with laughter and my dad was exasperated. Eventually we were able to play evenly, but regardless of whether Uncle Dick helped hone my checkers skills, he taught me to love playing and to work through the challenges.  I will always remember the fun and kindness he used in teaching. I love you, Uncle Dick and I will do my best to share the love and laughter. 

To Uncle Dick I truly wish I could be there but unfortunately being out here in the East coast with the kids it unfortunately wasn't possible. I know this is space limited so I'll keep this to one memory but I do remember seeing him for all the holidays and all the major Japanese events at the temple and how he always made things spontaneous and fun. I think my favorite thing was how he would always pretend like he's picking his nose or digging his ear with his pinky finger that is cut off and he'd always talk about how he would do it in random places to see how people would react. Just a great memory to summarize his carefree take on life and how he'll always be remembered in my heart.

Dick was a fair and honest man. He became my supervisor and promoted me twice under his tenure and I will always remember his as my favorite supervisor.  With great sadness to the family may he rest in peace.

Dick and I worked together for many years on the Po Sheng program. We traveled together many times to the east coast, Taiwan, and to France once! He was very opinionated and larger than life! He told me many stories about growing up in Rhode Island, the war, and his time in the Army. He was an incredible engineer who could quote formulas, describe error correction, or explain the significance of the least significant digit. We once played golf together (I've played for years, he played once) and ever since then, he instructed me on how to play golf. He was one of a kind and will truly be missed.
