Richard Hall Fonger

Richard (Dick) was born and raised in Flint Michigan. He attended Flint Technical High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII. In 1947, he married Marjorie (Margie) Lois Pearson and they had two children. Jeffrey Michael Fonger of Sacramento and Toni Denise Lown of San Diego. Dick spent 25 years with the City of Flint and retired in 1972 as a Police Lieutenant. He then began his second career working as a salesman for Huntington Laboratories which later became Ecolab.

Dick and Margie would then spend a few years in Scottsdale, AZ and then relocated back to Michigan where they lived in Rochester for 23 years until retirement.

In 2000 they moved to Vista, CA where Margie passed away in 2014. During this time, Dick worked part time for 15 years at Twin Oaks Golf Course as a Marshal.

Both Dick and Margie were avid golfers. You could say they lived for golf.

They first joined Oakwood Golf Course in Swartz Creek, MI when it was built in 1967. When they lived in Rochester they were members at Indianwood Golf and Country Club. In 2000 when they moved to Vista they joined Shadowridge Golf Club. Dick continued to play until 2019. Occasionally he would shoot his age or below in his 90’s.

He will be missed by so many friends and family.
