Rey was born December 10, 1939 in Calumpit, Bulacan, Philippines. In 1959, while studying to be an electrician at the Philippine Trade School, he enlisted in the United States Navy. On December 22, 1963 in Manila, he married Erlinda Pido Pacheco of Calbayog City, Samar, Philippines. While in the Navy, Rey worked as an electrician’s mate on several Navy ships, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer in 1983, and went on to work as an electrician for the San Diego Unified School District, eventually retiring in 2002. Rey enjoyed fishing, gardening, home improvement projects, keno at Barona Casino, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife Erlinda, one son, two daughters and five granddaughters: Reynold Alfonso, wife Lani, and daughters Isabella and Olivia; Jackie Houck, husband Dave, and daughter Kaity, daughter Joyce Bautista, husband Jay and daughters Mia and Ava.
He also had three brothers, Ronato (dec.), Rolando (dec.) and Alfredo, two sisters, Zeny and Fe and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 21 at El Camino Memorial – Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 22 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8200 Gold Coast Drive, San Diego, CA 92126; and burial will follow at 11:30 am, Wednesday, June 22 at El Camino Memorial – Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road.
