Raymond “Ray” Lee Dial, age 81 passed away on April 3, 2023 surrounded by his family, including his beloved wife, Marie of 60 years. On May 3, 1941, Ray was born in Grass Valley, California to John Weldon Dial and Olga Catherine Koshak Dial. He was the youngest of three boys. At the age of 10, the family moved to Brawley, California where Ray attended local schools. Ray excelled in school and had a passion for all sports, especially baseball and football. After graduating from Brawley Union High School in 1959, he attended Imperial Valley College and Riverside Community College where he played college baseball.
On November 24, 1962, Ray married his high school sweetheart, Marie Anne Mamer. They lived in Brawley, California where they raised their three children. Ray worked for the Southern California Gas Company. As his career progressed, he and Marie made moves to Blythe, Hemet, and San Dimas. He retired after 33 years of service and in 2006, they made the move to their forever home in San Diego.
Ray enjoyed the beautiful beach weather, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. He provided hours of entertainment with his lively, detailed stories. He contributed time to local community service groups, including Meals on Wheels. He was a devoted San Diego Padres’ fan. He loved getting on the trolley and going to the games with Marie.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, John and Olga Dial; brother, James Franklin Dial; and son, Raymond Todd Dial. Ray is survived by his wife, Marie Dial; his brother John “Bud” Dial; son, Tim (Laura) Dial; daughter, Lisa (Bobby) Lee; daughter-in-law, Cecilia “Ceci” Dial; grandchildren, Alexis (Todd) Richardson; Charley (Jordan) Abatti; Zachary (Kimber) Dial; Jeremy (Tanya) Dial; Lauren (Samantha) Dial; Steven Dial; Madison Lee; along with great grandchildren, Ashton Dial, Parker Abatti, and “Ellie” Richardson.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for the compassionate care Ray received by the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
Services to be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 am at Saint Brigid Parish, 4735 Cass Street, San Diego, California.
The family asks, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
