Quan Ai Hinh passed peacefully from this life on the evening of June 16th after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Quan was born on a small island of Hainan in China, and moved to America in 1990. She lived with her granddaughter in beautiful San Diego, CA; where she spent her remaining years.
For the brief time that I spent with grandma, I had the privilege to meet the many people whose lives she's touched. They came to visit her from different parts of towns, cities, states, and even countries from across the globe. Even though grandma never really talked to me about her past, what struck me the most is what all these people said to me before they left. All of them shook my hand and spoke very candidly. I couldn't understand what they were saying, but I could sense the genuine feelings they all shared for her. All I could do was to thank them for taking time out of their busy lives to visit her.
Only years later did my wife finally tell me who those people were and what they were saying to me before they left. All the visitors that had come to see grandma were all happy because they appreciated all the things she had done for them and their children. They were telling me how kind grandma was and how she helped them during their time of need. They were also thanking me for looking after her when they could not. Even the children of the people grandma helped came to pay their respects. I just never realized what an amazing person my grandma is. I only know her as a lovely woman who is always concerned of others; always smiling and looking for things to laugh about. I found out that grandma is a person of action even though she never mentioned she had helped so many people throughout her life. I could see what she has done for them has transcended through generations. That is when I realized how extraordinary grandma is and what her legacy has become.
We will continue her legacy through our actions so that the generations to come will know of her through her children, their children and so on.
