Porter Gordon Smith, 67, of San Diego, passed away on June 17, 2016 in San Diego. Porter was born in New York on February 19, 1949 and was adopted by Braddish J. Smith and Ruth B. Alexander the follow year. He grew up in many locations such as Falls Church, Virginia, Ottawa, Canada and Bangkok, Thailand; where he learned Thai fluently. Porter attended St. James School in Hagerstown, Maryland from 1962 to 1967. In the following year he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended boot camp at N.A.S Jacksonville. Through 1970 to 71 he was stationed in Beevile, Texas and Moffett Field before heading to Olongapo, Philippines in 1973. During this time, he met his wife; Anita Smith and welcomed his first daughter in 1974; Annashiela. He married Anita E. Smith on July 7, 1975 in Hawaii. This small family lived in Hawaii for seven years before returning back to the Philippines to welcome his second daughter; Rebecca. Porter received his B.A. degree in Psychology from Chapman University and M.A in Business Administration focusing on Human Resources from Almeda University. Porter retired from his naval career as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 30 years. Afterward took different jobs during retirement such as working for Nike and Mental Health Kokua in Hawaii. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting currency from around the world, movies, reading and spending time with his family. Porter is survived by Anita E. Smith; Spouse. Daughters; Annashiela E. Smith and Rebecca R. Jimenez. Sister; Deborah Lewellen and grandchildren; Christopher R. Smith, Nealani A. Sola, Danny R. Sola Jr., Andy Hong and Alana Hong. The family of Porter G. Smith wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all family and friends. Porter’s prayer he said nightly since 2000… “Good night Mom, Good night Dad. I love you guys both so very much and miss you terribly and I want to thank you for everything. To all my friends, relatives, enemies, neighbors and shipmates, both living and dead, may you have an even greater day tomorrow than the great day I had today, and may you have happy, long, healthy and safe lives. Especially Annie, Shiela, Rebecca, Andy, Alana, Christopher, Nealani, Dj, Debby, Lydia, Rachel, Mary, Aunt Mia, Aunt Jerry, Trip, Tory, Jody, Ginny, Cindy, Dr. Lewis, Ellie, Fe, Grace Romy, Rosal and Vidal.”
