CDR Paul S. Stryker U.S. Navy Retired, age 63, passed away suddenly Memorial Day weekend. Born in Rochester, New York, to Albert and Nancy Stryker, Paul was an Explosive Ordnance Technician, Special Operations Warfare, Underwater Demolition, Diver and Weapons Officer with the U.S. Navy from May 9,1981 to January 1, 2004. Paul became an Eagle Scout, the highest achievement attainable with 63 merit badges with the Boy Scouts of America. Paul graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.S. and a minor in music from Eastman’s School of Music. Paul enjoyed playing the trombone and piano. He loved singing in the church choir and playing handbells at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church. He traveled to Europe on a mission trip with SBPC to Eastern Europe in 2003. He volunteered at the church helping the underserved children and was a volunteer on the USS Midway. He was active in local politics in Solana Beach. He was a Senior Volunteer Patrol with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. His hobbies included, photography, building remote control airplanes, repairing cars and organs. He loved nature and gardening. He was a NASCAR and Sports enthusiast to say the least. Paul is survived by his former wife Jeanne Stryker, MD and their three children Sean, Spencer and Julia Gintalas (Emilijus) his mother Nancy Stryker, his father Albert Stryker (deceased), his brothers, Karl Stryker (Vickie), Mark Stryker (Jamie), his sister Anne Soule (Shreve) and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nephews. His family will hold a private Celebration of Life Military Memorial Honor Guard Service on the USS Midway on June 23 and a private family Interment at Miramar National Cemetery (later date) in his honor.
