Patricia "Pat" Lugene McCollough

Patricia "Pat" Lugene McCollough was born in Fergus Falls, MN, on March 5, 1939. Pat had struggled with a terminal illness for many years that worsened over the last month. She died at home in San Diego, CA with her loved ones under the care of hospice on February 27, 2023, at 83 years of age.

Chester Nelson (Father), Frederick Horstman (Stepfather), Catherine Nelson-Horstman (Mother), Sharon Nelson-Johnson (Sister), Son: Scott Frederick McCollough (Son) (August 3, 1958 - August 4, 1958), Sheila Marie McCollough (Daughter) (May 31, 1959 - June 1, 1959)

Marriage

Pat married Roger McCollough on September 8, 1956, at 17 years of age. They recently celebrated their 66th Anniversary.

Pat loved her family more than could ever be expressed. They are as follows:

Pat loved her church family; they were like extended family to her. She was a member of both La Jolla Lutheran and Saint Paul's Lutheran Churches. She volunteered and was well connected there.

Employment

While Pat was the pillar of our family, she also had a variety of employers and jobs including verification & processing of freight damage claims, working for the Central Intelligence Agency as well as Napa County as a key punch and verification operator, a cashier for Montgomery Ward, Personnel Clerk, and Computer Programmer. She retired in 1997 as a Sr. Financial Analyst.

Volunteering

After retirement, Pat began volunteering for the USO, San Diego International Airport as an Airport Ambassador, and at the Balboa Naval Hospital in pediatrics

Hobbies

Pat's favorite hobbies were reading, picking out the best greeting cards for family to celebrate all occasions, studying family genealogy, and traveling. She traveled to all 50 states and 6 continents, deciding not to go to the 7th, Antarctica, as she had "experienced enough ice and snow while living in Minnesota." Pat said many times that she knew that she was meant to live on the West Coast in Sothern California as she preferred a warm beach climate. Living and retiring in San Diego was a dream come true for her.
