We remember and honor the life of Olga Edme Gomez, daughter to Pedro Moreno and Eulalia Ruperto de Moreno; beloved wife of William Gomez; sister to Libia Wilson, Amilda Comesana, Olga Gish, Frances Masten and Darrell Moreno; mother to Gail Marie Gomez-Hake and William Edward Gomez; Grandmother to Maegan Champion, Marielle Clemo, Liam Alexander and Drew Alexander; most beloved Great Grandmother to Charlie, Owen, Evelyn and Billy.
Raised on Quincy Street in Brooklyn New York where she established her great love of walking as she ambled between home and schools at Mark Hopkins Junior High and Girls High School. Known to be a good hitting baseball player, always being a top pick at the neighborhood playgrounds on Elery Street. Grew to love dancing, stepping out first to the Jitterbug and later wowing family crowds with her husband / life partner Bill and their latin dance interpretations of the mambo and merenque. Loved listening to the crooners and watching them at the Paramount Theater.
Went on to raise a family on Long Island in the neighborhoods of Brentwood and Bay Shore New York. Continued with her long walking ways with regular jaunts to the downtown library bringing her kids in tow. Emphasized the importance of education in her children and was rewarded with two college graduates and when daughter Gail went on to be valued educator, teacher and principle, in the Brentwood School District. Also instilled a great work ethic in her children, skills which she established in her role as office administrator at Underwriters Laboratories, a legal secretary and the friendliest Collection Agent at Sear & Roebucks.
Went on to live in Milledgeville, Georgia; Cocoa Florida and finally San Diego California where she was a valued volunteer at various organization in each new community. But most importantly she’ll be remembered as a loving host to family and friends, each visit filled with so much fun, laughter, great conversation and food.
Those who new her well will agree that parting was always sweet sorrow … and so while we are left with grief in our hearts, Olga has also behind a vibrant, colorful bouquet of memories, with new shoots and blooms that will reach out to us forever.
God blessed us with Olga Gomez.
