passed away at her home in San Diego on July 11, 2021, at the age of 100. The daughter of Beulah Nell White Jacob and Arthur Wray Jacob, Nellora was born November 14, 1920, on the family farm in Valley
Center, Kansas. Educated in Valley Center and Wichita, Kansas Nellora worked in various administrative capacities before moving to California.
Nellora’s family included four sisters (Mary Jane, Betty, Rachel and Ruth) as well as aunts, uncles and grandparents in the immediate area. Nellora maintained friendships with classmates and friends from her early years.
While visiting her aunt, Edith Havens, in Rancho Santa Fe, Nellora met and later married Omar A. Walker in 1957. Nellora quickly made new friends through Omar and her activities in civic affairs such as the Red Cross, the San Diego Opera, The Old Globe Theatre, The Country Friends, the Freedom Foundation and her church, Mission Hills United Church of Christ. Nellora was an active golfer playing initially at Stardust Country Club, then Bernardo Heights Country Club, and finally Bonita Golf Course. She served on the Southern California Women’s Golf Association Board as secretary. Nellora played golf into her 100th year. Traveling the world was a passion throughout Nellora’s life which she enjoyed in the companionship of Omar, various relatives, friends or on her own.
Nellora was loyal and caring and deeply valued the many friendships she developed over the years. The last twenty years of her life were spent in the Meridian building in downtown San Diego. She acquired close friends of all ages in the building and kept apprised of the activities and administration of the
Meridian. Until her death, Nellora was an ardent reader and bridge player. She was an inspiration to many for her enthusiastic enjoyment of life, her sharp mind and interest in all things around her. She will be deeply missed.
Nellora was predeceased by her parents, husband, Omar A. Walker, four sisters
and brothers-in-law, and two nephews. She is survived by numerous friends in the San Diego area and eight nieces and nephews with whom she maintained close contact: Roger A Brown, Charlotte B. Delaney, Martha A. Feltus, Ed A. Wedman, Joel T. Wedman, Brian F. Price, Bruce A. Price, and Cynthia A. Wilson.
A memorial service will be held for Nellora on August 26, 2021, at 10:30 am at the Mission Hills United Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission Hills United Church of Christ or San Diego Symphony Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family through Merkley Mitchell Mortuary.
