Milon Gay Edwards III, a longtime resident of Ocean Beach, passed away on June 15, 2018. He was 76.
He was born in Joplin, Missouri and moved to the Peninsula area in 1953. He attended Dana Junior High and Point Loma High School. At Point Loma High School he was an honor student and active in ROTC, graduating in 1959. He received a scholarship to Occidental College but interrupted his education for a two-year stint in the Army, during which he was stationed in Germany as a communications specialist. He returned to Occidental and graduated with a major in mathematics. He then went to work for the U.S. Post Office, where he remained for more than 20 years. He was an avid bridge player, earning Life Master status. He loved to ride his bicycle around Point Loma.
A military ceremony will be held on June 28 at 10 am at Miramar National Cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Whittier; sister Marilyn Cook; brother Patrick Edwards; five nieces and nephews; and four great-nieces and great-nephews.
