Miguel was born on the island of Pico, Acores, Portugal to Miguel Perreira da Rosa and Margarida Garcia . At 19, he left for Mafra (north of Lisbon) Portugal to fulfill his two years of mandatory military service. After returning to Pico, he met and finally married Laura Miranda on December 28, 1959. After a series of very strong earthquakes destroyed their home in late 1973, and upon his sister Gabriella Simas' insistence, the family immigrated to San Diego and arrived in February of 1974. They settled in Pt. Loma and after a short stint as a tuna fisherman, Miguel hired on with Southwest Marine (now BAE Systems) and continued until retiring in 2003.
After retiring in 2003, Miguel enjoyed traveling, playing in the Filarmonica Uniao Portuguesa, visiting with friends and family and family functions such as Christmas, birthdays, and his annual wine making and hog feast in the garage. He especially loved to travel back to Pico where he had countless friends and family just about every summer for at least three months until his health began to falter in 2022. He very much loved company at his home and will definitely be missed.
