Michael Paine, loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love in his Ocean Beach home, after a valiant 2 year battle with cancer.
Mike grew up in and around the Spring Valley neighborhood of San Diego. He always shared stories with his daughters of his adventures growing up with 2 brothers–riding bikes, fishing and visiting with his beloved grandparents, especially Don and Grace, aunts, uncles, and cousins. After graduating from Mount Miguel Highschool, Mike entered the workforce learning various skills in the construction and painting trades. Mike became a business owner and operator of Paine’s Superior Coatings until the time of his death.
Mike was an avid sports fan, loved fishing in the lakes and the ocean, coaching softball, beach days with his family and traveling to the Sierras whenever he had a chance. He loved life and with his faith, he found joy in serving others. Mike’s love for his community ran deep. He was a long-time
member of the Pt. Loma Masonic Lodge, where he rose in rank and became Master Mason in 2007. He was highly involved in helping the Lodge grow by encouraging friendships among new and existing members for 16 years and served as Master in 2012, 2015, 2019, & 2020. Mike enjoyed supporting and
playing an active role in the Portuguese Community of Pt. Loma, St. Charles Borromeo Academy and Peninsula Youth Softball Association. When Mike wasn’t working or helping his girls, you could find him prepping the softball fields, coaching a team, or fixing something that needed it and leaving it better
than he found it. Mike’s passing will leave a huge void in this community, but those that were blessed to know him, will continue to “Live like Mike.”
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Regina. His beautiful daughters, Grace and Elia, mother, Kathleen Paine, brothers, Donald (Jody) and William Paine, brothers-in-law Ruijames Goncalves, Raymond Goncalves, and Scott McMullan, sisters-in-law Annette Goncalves, Stephanie Goncalves, and
Rebecca McMullan, as well as many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many beloved friends. Mike is preceded in death by his father, William Wentworth Paine and brother-in-law, Richard Goncalves.
