Michael Paul Green was born in Rock island, Illinois, on February 17th, 1945. He was the youngest of four children to Kenneth and Alice Green. At a young age his family moved to Tucson Arizona where Michael spent his youth becoming a talented athlete on both the baseball and football fields. While attending Tucson High, Michael helped lead his football team to the 1963 state championship game and his backfield earn an "all-American" title to which he was a fullback. While attending the University of Arizona, he became a member of the Delta Chi fraternity and graduated with a business degree in1969. A year prior to graduating Michael met a young red head, Gloria Darlene Reid, while on a double date (she was his friends date) and fell head over heels. Using his famously charming and witty personality he won her heart, and they were married in 1969.
In 1981, Michael moved his family which now included a young daughter, Adrianna Michele to Los Angeles where he had just become part owner of a commercial HVAC rep company, ToroAire Inc. They settled in Manhattan Beach and welcomed their second daughter, Megan Nicole. As ToroAire grew in success he and his partner David McIntyre decided one of them needed to move south to San Diego in order to expand their company's territory. As Michael famously liked to tell, the two men decided to draw straws and the "loser" would be the one to move. Michael chose the short straw. however, later claimed this "loss" turned out to be the best moments in his life. In 1987, they moved to La Jolla, a small coastal community of San Diego and purchased a charming Spanish style house which Gloria had fallen in love with the moment she saw it.
Michael would spend the rest of his life in that very home, working only a short distance away in Pacific Beach, having dealt with LA traffic, he never wanted to commute again. He loved playing golf and teaching his young daughters the important things in life like how to make a proper Bloody Mary and play cards. He was also happiest while traveling, especially driving down the roads of Baja California.
After much success in business Michael retired in 2003 at the young age of 58. However, this retirement would not last long, in 2009 Michael purchased a local restaurant, one block from his home, El Ranchero. The Ranch, as everyone knew it had fallen on hard times and needed to be revitalized. Michael knew he could bring it back, even if he had never been in the restaurant business before. With the dedicated help of Gloria and eventually Megan, they turned the now Verdes El Ranchero into a successful business once again.
Michael however, never really got to see the wonderful result of his families' hard work. After years of continued memory troubles, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013. He did however spend each day of his remaining years in the home he loved, surrounded by those who loved him the most. To the end Michaels whit endured and his famously told one liners will continue on. Michael passed away due to complications of Alzheimer's on November 21, 2020. He is survived by his sister Carolyn, his wife Gloria, daughters Adrianna and Megan, and 3 grandchildren.
