Merva Ruth Gunnels

Merva Ruth was born in Riverdale, Utah and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved playing piano. She used her talents to serve as a pianist and teacher of children for many years at church. She was a loving wife and mother of seven children, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Merva Ruth is survived by her children Paul (Jeanne) Gunnels, Sheila Gunnels Poole Day, Martha (Keith) L. Herrige Eaby, (Rodd Buttars), Walter Gunnels, Benjamin Gunnels, sisters Nola (Dan), Marilyn, Evelyn, Robin, and brothers John (Mona) Stephens and Gene "Hap" (Cathy) Stephens. She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence James "Jim" Gunnels, daughters Merva Ann Gunnels & Peggy Buttars, granddaughters Melissa Annette Poole, Sara Herrige, brother James Richard "Jimmy" Stephens, father Earl James Stephens and mother Merva Ward.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday May 16, 2023 from 1:30pm to 2pm at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery. Please arrive at 1pm at the administration building at 1700 CABRILLO MEMORIAL DR, SAN DIEGO, CA 92106.
